It's my Soapbox
By Dorothy Wilson

Hi Fellow Seniors:

The column this month was going to be about the New Year and new attitudes about jumping out of your well worn rut that we affectionately refer to as the 'comfort zone' and facing new challenges in the coming year. However all that changed when I had a confrontation with my bank regarding reduced services. I take exception to someone telling me that reduced services is 'for my protection' instead of saying that it will save THEM money.

I talked to staff at the following four banks regarding their services to seniors and this is what they told me.

ROYAL BANK
They withdrew all senior services as of January l, 2002 with the exception of a $4.00 rebate on monthly service charges. However, they are honouring all Seniors services that were in place up to December 3l,200l. This was confirmed by the Head Office in Toronto.
